The Big O

Taken from the old BigOandDukes.com..

Born high in the Andes Mountains, amongst the Inca of La Paz, Bolivia, The Big O has been consistently denying his alleged “Mexican” heritage ever since. After constructing a raft out of beer cans, he forded the Rio Grande and photocopied a Green Card.

A product of MoCo Public Schools, with the exception of a three-year stint in the private sector (which did not agree with The Big O’s lifestyle), Oscar started his radio career in the outskirts of Beantown at Dean College in Franklin, MA. After conquering New England’s Great White Airwaves, he decided it was time to check out the strong family ties at West Virginia University.

The Big O quickly landed a slot on U92’s “Urban Diner,” which was the only station in WV with hip-hop flavor. During his radio days at U92, The Big O was always popular with the WVU sorostitutes, but he was more notorious among the inmates at the nearby federal penitentiary. He is now very careful not to drop the soap.

Surpassing Chad’s mark of junior standing, The Big O was well prepared when he stumbled onto an internship at the Legendary 99.1 HFS. While interning, The Big O worked his mojo to land a gig after graduation. With degree in hand, he walked the streets slinging HFS shirts and stickers. The higher-ups at HFS realized their Latino had more to offer in the studio than on the streets. Though he believes his on-air skills are money, rumor has it that they needed to fill quota and expand their listening demographic in the area (a.k.a. “Adams Morgan”).

Big O and Dukes achieved their goal as full time on air DJÓs at the station formally known as 99.1 WHFS. They rocked out evenings 6-10pm for a number of months in Washington and Baltimore. And Then on January 12th, 2005 everything changed! Chad Dukes likes to refer to this date as the day all of Oscar’s relatives took over 99.1 and the station flipped to 99.1 EL ZOL øSiempre De Fiesta.Ó

Soon enough after some heavy and I mean HEAVY drinking the boys had to weigh their options and decided to try their hand at talk radio. The auditioned for the OTL spot on Live 105.7 for a number of days and were soon informed that they would be speaking to the mass’s right after the Legendary Howard Stern and right before Radio Gods Don & Mike!

Some of his most memorable moments were “Manbagging for the Bahamas,” working the red carpet at the VMA’s with Tim Virgin, meeting the Junkies, landing the OTL slot on 105.7WHFS and “women.”

The Big O can now be heard of course on “The Big O and Dukes Show.” On 106.7 WJFK.

Good times.
